Comme chaque année, les Franciscains, gardiens du Saint Sépulcre, ont déployé tous les fastes de la liturgie pour accueillir dans la Basilique de la Résurrection les festivités du Corps du Christ.

 

A l’issue de la messe, la procession solennelle du Saint Sacrement qui tourna trois fois autour de l’édicule puis fit une nouvelle station à l’autel de l’apparition à Marie Madeleine et la dernière dans la chapelle de l’apparition à la Vierge, finit d’ajouter à la solennité du jour.

La veille de la fête Mgr Shomali, représentant le Patriarche, faisait une entrée solennelle suivie des vêpres et de la procession quotidienne solennisée.

Le jour de la fête, les Franciscains se rendirent au patriarcat chercher Mgr Shomali pour l’inviter à venir présider la Messe pontificale. De nombreux prêtres avaient directement rejoint la basilique à l’invitation de l’Assemblée des Ordinaires de Terre Sainte qui a désiré que cette célébration de la fête du Saint Sacrement marque à Jérusalem la fin de l’année sacerdotale.

Dans la Vieille Ville il n’y a qu’une seule communauté chrétienne et plus de distinction d’Eglises d’autant que tous vivent la même frustration : les manifestations du matin comme les rassemblements de jeunes, le défilé de scouts dans l’attente du Feu nouveau sont interdits par les autorités israéliennes "pour raison de sécurité". C’est vrai que la Vieille Ville est en état de siège depuis vendredi soir minuit. La police épaulée par les gardes frontières a investi la ville. Il est possible d’en sortir mais impossible d’y entrer et à l’intérieur même de la ville le quartier chrétien est isolé, cerné de points de contrôle.

 

 Vendredi soir on apprend que les autorités israéliennes auraient décidé que les chrétiens arméniens entreraient dans la ville par la porte de Sion, les autres orthodoxes (soit tous les pèlerins russes, roumains, grecs et chypriotes) par la porte de Jaffa, les latins par la porte Neuve. Cela pourrait être une bonne idée s’il existait, pour un soldat israélien, un moyen de distinguer un orthodoxe d’un latin. Et donc à 5h30 du matin à la porte Neuve tout le monde est bloqué et dans le doute des soldats absolument personne n’a le droit d’entrer. Il faut que le frère Athanasius Macora après avoir lui-même prouvé son identité et sa qualité de responsable du Statu Quo fasse s’entrouvrir les barrières ayant assuré qu’il pouvait reconnaître "ses" fidèles. Alors qu’un gradé s’entretient avec lui, un soldat interroge dans un mauvais anglais les pèlerins qui se pressent "comme des malades" contre la barrière : "catholique ? -Da, da !"... la réponse en russe ne le trouble pas.

 

 Un groupe d’une quinzaine de fidèles éthiopiens fend la foule…. Leur office est à 20 heures ce soir… Ils ne seront pas en retard. Ils sont conduits pas un soldat éthiopien.

 

 De Saint Sauveur au Saint Sépulcre 4 barrages en 500 mètres que ce petit groupe de pèlerins n’aurait pas franchis sans l’aide de Saliba, policier arabe israélien chrétien et gradé en charge de la Vieille Ville.
