Père Maxime futur stylite du XXIe siècle

The 40-meter-high rock column sits in central Georgia’s Imereti region.

Un article d'Eurasianet relate le souhait, et les efforts, du père Maxime, moine géorgien, pour devenir stylite.

 Pour cela, il aménage une église sur une roche en forme de pilier nommé Katskhi, haute de 40 mètres, dans le centre de la Géorgie (province Iméréthie, non loin de la ville deTchiatoura).

Stylites, early Christian ascetics who prayed and fasted on top of pillars, used Katskhi until the 15th century.

 Entre les 6e et 8e siècle, une église avait été construite sur cette même roche. Des moines y prièrent jusqu'au 15e siècle. La nouvelle construction doit être achevée en 2011.

Le père Maxime espère obtenir la bénédiction du patriarche Elie de Géorgie pour y vivre en stylite.
